Last Chance Animal Rescue  is operated by a private family in Pocahontas County WV  and we have donated our
home and time to take in unwanted , abused and neglected animals and give them everything they need until a
new and forever home is found. Although we try to never turn away any animal in need our main areas of focus
are rabbits, ferrets, llamas, goats, horses and domesticated birds.  And we  try to rehabilitate as many as possible
for a second chance for a new and loving home.

We operate solely from monies directly out of our pockets and donations from private individuals for food and
medical care

At this time we are not able to take cats and dogs from other Counties due  to I am the Animal Control / Humane
Officer and there is no shelter in our county and  we house all the dogs and cats that are unwanted and abused
until they are sent to other rescues groups or adopted into a new and forever homes.
Our shelter consists of outdoor kennels and dog houses . And a very small building for cats and small dogs with
heat lamps to  help keep them warm
Is to Rescue & rehabilitate as many abused and neglected
animals for a second chance with  a new and loving home.
Our Mission:
A very generous, former Pocahontas County resident and homeless animal advocate, has donated this 16'x20'
building to the homeless animals in Pocahontas county. Donated in memory of her two precious companion
pooches, MacKenzie and Buffy. We can not ever thank her enough for all she has done to help the homeless,
neglected and even abused animals here.

We have started the ground work and are we are hoping,to have the building up and operational  by March of
2008.

Here is what we need donations for to help the animals get in out of the cold and into a heated facility and an air
conditioned one during the summer and completely out of the elements .

Adoption Application
Hi my name is Sandy and I have been an Animal Control / Humane Officer in Pocahontas County WV since September of
1996. When I began we had no animal control or housing for any unwanted, and abused animals. When I was Hired for the
position of Animal Control I took out a loan to build a small indoor kennel to house the dogs and cats. Thanks to the support
and help of my family and close friends I started taking in and caring for over 1,500 unwanted, abused and neglected animals
a year. I try to never turn any animal away but do to limited space and personal funding I could not help them all.

My problem now is that in 2002 I had to relocate due to my husband being injured and who now is disabled. The funding for
the care of the animals is only coming from my income now of 21,600 a year. I cannot afford to rebuild a new small indoor
kennel to house the animals so they are all housed outdoors.

As a Humane Officer I have to seize and care for all animals that are being abused and neglected and house them myself. If
they are indoor animals I cannot put them outdoors in the winter or they will freeze so I have to put them in my home which is
very difficult when it is a large number of animals due to I have limited space.

The Animal Control position was only for dogs and cats but there was no one to help the large animals that where being
abused and starved . So in 2005 I started a nonprofit rescue called the Last Chance Animal Rescue so that I could help all
animals that are unwanted, neglected and abused. That includes horses, goats, rabbits, llamas, ferrets ,domesticated birds and
Giant Breed Dogs such as Mastiffs, Great Danes, Saint Bernard's.  I try to rehabilitate them so they can be adopted into new
and loving homes. But I need help with supplies and funding to be able to help more animals in need.
 LCAR is a  registered
nonprofit association but  we do not have our 501c3 status at this time .
